Prince's co-authorship of "Stand Back," which reached number five on the pop charts in June 1983, has long been a source of debate among his listeners. One version of the story behind the making of the hit song is that Prince came down to the studio and added the main keyboard riff to the song. Some, however, have stated that the part he added was never used in the album mix. The Library Of Congress does not list him as a writer on the song, nor does it list any of his publishing companies.
Recently, Uptown Magazine published their book Turn It Up. Curious as to why they listed the song as a Prince composition, I contacted them. The magazine stated that they uncovered evidence that Prince receives royalties on the track and so it is listed here.
