A friend of mine once relayed a story about this album to me when I asked him if Prince had any uncredited participation. Hey Man... Smell My Finger was being recorded at Paisley Park. Apparently, whenever George Clinton's crew went on breaks they took the master tapes so Prince could not fiddle with them. Who knows for certain if this story is true or not, but it is fun.
The only released Prince contribution to the album was "The Big Pump." The track has a techno edge to it that was representative of a lot of material he was writing at this time. Unlike most of his contributions to other's albums, "The Big Pump" was one of the weakest tracks on the album. Hey Man... Smell My Finger has a lot of Prince style on it and is quite enjoyable. Then again, Prince did get a lot of his sound from George Clinton's P-Funk albums.
