Tevin Campbell - I'm Ready
Tevin Campbell did quite well with this album commercially. After his success with "Round & Round," which reached number twelve on the pop charts, I'm Ready had a lot of support from Warner Brothers. Among the writers they brought to the project were Prince, who penned 4 tracks. Although I'm Ready hit with "Can We Talk," "I'm Ready" and "Always In My Heart," none of the Prince tracks reached the pop charts.

"Shhh" was included in the songs Tevin performed. There is a rumor of a phone conversation during which the young singer boasted about his success to Prince, by then known as O{+^. He was upset and said something to the effect of I made you. To prove his point, he performed his far superior, band-flavored, "Shhh" on his album The Gold Experience. Some time after that rumored conversation, the two musicians made up. Of course there is no way to know if this is true, but it makes for a fun story. The track is retained in the list since Campbell recorded it first, essentially making O{+^'s own version a cover of his own song.

The album is quite good. Babyface contributed several of the hit tracks and Prince managed minor chart success with "The Halls Of Desire." The most interesting Prince penned track was "Paris 1798430," a song reminiscent of the period. It featured a strong keyboard driven bass track, which was almost sounded big band somehow. "Uncle Sam," a relatively good pop track, rounded out his contributions.
