NYC [EP]
One evening in mid-January 1997 O{+^ took the stage at New York City's Roseland club. The show was part of a benefit tour for his own Love 4 One Another Charity Tour. The day was a long one for O{+^ as before the show he filmed the video for Emancipation's "Somebody Somebody" and also the VH1 One On One interview with Chris Rock. Before the show O{+^ was overheard saying, "I don't feel up to this tonight." Something must have changed.

I was there that night in January and it was one unbelievable show. O{+^ and the NPG were loose and played one of his most heartfelt New York shows in years. I swear I saw tears in his eyes during "Purple Rain." There was something really special about the show that night and he must have thought so to. A couple of months after Roseland he released a two song EP titled simply NYC, through his 1-800-NEW-FUNK merchandise line. He may have planned to release a commercial video or a full-length show for the tour, as rumored, but nothing other than this simple "Jam Of The Year" and "Face Down" tape surfaced.

It is a shame he did not release the entire Roseland show, but is may be due to one unheard of moment. He was breaking in a new band during the Love 4 One Another Charity Tour. At the time, there were rumors that he was not too happy with them yet and most of the public agreed that the previous incarnation was superior. They really showed up strong at Roseland, but during "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"'s ticking clock break they all came in at the wrong time. O{+^ has made his reputation by having one of the tightest outfits in the world. He was rumored to have fined his band members in the past if they missed a single note. With such an error, in an otherwise flawless show, there is no way he would release the whole thing. Too bad.
