Come
|
When Come was released, it was poorly received. Prince, now known as , was in the midst of a contract dispute with Warner Brothers and the public was becoming more confused by him every day it seemed. Come was still his most focused album of the 1990s, up to that point. On several tracks, he successfully incorporated his classic sound with the current trends. Moreover, he experimented on the album in parts. Critics, nevertheless, blasted the album, especially the seemingly overt sexual content.
Warner Brothers had little interest in promoting the album and had less. He claimed his best current material was not on the album and was being held back for an album titled The Gold Experience. To make commercial matters worse, he refused to give "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" to Warner Brothers as well as several top notch tracks, many of which finally saw the light of day on his Crystal Ball set of previously bootlegged material. These songs included "Strays Of The World" and "Acknowledge Me."
