Soul superstar WHITNEY HOUSTON really is feeling triumphant after hearing she will receive the first Triumphant Spirit Award at the annual prize-giving event organized by American magazine ESSENCE. Houston was nominated for the award because Essence bosses wanted to applaud her for both her musical work and her foundation for homeless children with AIDS and cancer. Other nominees at the Essence Awards include legendary boxer MUHAMMAD ALI and Olympic gymnast DOMINIQUE DAWES. THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE, PATTI LABELLE and QUINCY JONES will be presenters at the ceremony, which each year honors African-American icons.
