THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE and AL PACINO can't wait to go to VERSACE's
swanky party tomorrow - because they want to see British group REPUBLICA. The
READY TO GO rockers will open and close the plush VERSUS fashion show at New
York's Ace Gallery, after lead singer SAFFRON was persuaded to attend by Gianni
Versace's sister DONATELLA. And the Italian fashion giants are so impressed by
the group, they're even demanding supermodels including NAOMI CAMPBELL, KATE
MOSS and STELLA TENNANT wear Saffron-style wigs as they make their way down the
catwalk. Republica spokesperson BERNARD MacMAHON says, "Donatella saw the
singing on a fashion show on MTV, and just fell in love with them. It'll be
great to see all the supermodels wearing the red-streaked wigs - it's a real
honour for the band." Pacino, TAFKAP and the Versace clan aren't the only
celebrity Republica fans either. The group recently completed their
contribution
to a tribute album to electro-pop pioneer GARY NUMAN - and Numan himself was
so
impressed, he has now agreed to provide backing vocals.
