The Folks at ABC Broadcasting Standards and Practices were a
little nervous about how "erotic" things might get when The Artist
formerly known as Prince, who received an award of merit, performed with
his Erotic City Dance Troupe. "We were very upset that during the
playback of the show somebody on the East Coast jumped the gun and put a
freeze frame of the audience up when they anticipated something naughty
was going to happen," said Dick Clark Productions' Al Schwartz, who
produced the show. It never did. "A dancer had her top removed, but it
was choreographed so there was nothing to see - her arms covered her
breasts," Schwartz explained. "It's frustrating when there's shows like
ER, NYPD Blue and Chicago Hope that deal with mature themes, and then in a
variety show they throw up the freeze frame." Not surprisingly, TAFKAP
offered no comment on the freeze-frame glitch.
