A Princely Story
As far as REM's Michael Stipe is concerned, Spin staffer Scott Poulson-Bryant
scored a major coup during his recent visit to Prince's Paisley Park Studios.
Seems the writer was out in Minneapolis to do a story on Prince's band, New
Power Generation, when Prince, who has a strict "no interview" policy,
invited him into band rehearsals, then gave him a personal preview of his
upcoming " Diamonds and Pearls" LP. Stipe, who mixed REM's "Out of Time" record
at Paisley Park, could hardly contain his surprise when he ran into
Poulson-Bryant at LaGuardia. "I was out there for a month, and I never even got
to meet him," Stipe said. The results of the writer's audience with the Purple
One will be in September Spin.
