PRINCE
Music From The Motion Picture Girl 6
(Warner Bros.)

Prince's movie music history has been spotty to say the least, with both big hits (Purple Rain) and misses (Graffiti Bridge). This soundtrack, from the new comedy about telephone sex girls, falls somewhere between his highs and lows.

Laden with horns and falsetto singing, containing both old and new material, the album is as lush as anything Prince has done recently and the love talk is the most sincere he has done since "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World".

Fans will appreciate two previously unreleased Prince tracks ("She Spoke 2 Me" and "Don't Talk 2 Strangers", both early '90s outtakes), as well as the new title track, which is credited to his former band, the New Power Generation - but Prince is there, too.

The album has a smooth flow, but there's a sameness that eventually wears and prevents it from being one of the great ones.
